A blast from the past. Back in the Sunday league days, when 11 (sometimes 10) heroic or idiotic gregson players got up on a sunday morning to get kicked around a Salt Ayre football field by drunken louts, mind you back then you could get in at the flicks buy a strawberry mivvie, a bag chips and still have change out of a shilling to get the tram home.

Where are they now ?

Back Left to Bottom Right

Oliver Bailey: Still with the Gregson and now playing at centre back, was the Gregsons main striker when this picture was taken

Chris Stevenson: Retired, Chris was the Gregsons left back. After 2 seasons with the Gregson was no longer allowed to come out to play, last seen sporting an enormous beer belly, let that be a warning to all wags

Richard Woodstock:  Where it all began. Founder of the team. Manager for 2 seasons and centre back, midfield striker, full back, where ever the ball went so did Ritch, famous for his use of little triangles although no one else knew what he was on about. Ritch is still with the Gregson and hoping to return to action in 2006.

Dave Hawkswell : Retired. Gregson right back, youngest member of the team, no one was quite sure where he came from. Had a good touch but normally hoofed the ball as far up field as he could. Last seen heading for China.

Mark Stevenson: Centre back then and still with the Gregson paired with Oli Bailey at centre back for much of 2004/2005 season and scorer of one goal.

James Taylor: Retiredish Thank God for James in the those days, it wasn't for James the goals conceded column every year would have been doubled. We let an average of 100 goals as it was. Occasional appearance since James moved to Preston.

Alan: Retired probably dead. Lack of skill was combined with Lack of fitness. Which was strange considering he was a fitness instructor. Couldn't run for more than 5 minutes before he turned green. Considered by some schools of thought (his own) to be the best player on the pitch.

Douglas Purvis: Gregson Methusela. In those days Gregsons midfield maestro, still with the Gregson, scorer of 3 goals in the 2005/2006 campaign mainly from set pieces. Set for the 2006/2007 season, surely another season will finish the old boy off.

Dom Williams:  Still with the Gregson, finished top scorer with 8 goals in 2005/2006 season, looking to improve on this in the 2006.2007 season.

Mick Stevenson: Retired.  Mick was the fast striker centre back come sweeper that is now Baileys mantle, retired when he became involved with trains. Any potential come back is thwarted by Micks inability to stay upright on his motor bike.

Richard Camp:  Retired. Flying winger, Ritchie retired after injury, scorer of 3 goals in 2005/2006 campaign and scorer of the best and most untimely own goal ever seen.

Steve Longstaffe: Mainstay of the squad at right back, this was the season the Steve shouted "dont pass to me I'm a defender." How things have changed. Set for the 2006/2007 campaign.

Claude: Retired but perhaps it was all a dream. Claude, Claude...Claude. I was not sure untill I saw the picture again that Claude was real, I thought it was a figment of my imagination, my conscious mind had blocked it out, but no there he is, unless there it is some twilight zone thing. The Floridian Baron Munchausen of the Gregson, Claude was voted  M.V.P. 2 seasons running (by himself). He could run faster, shoot harder and dribble better than any one else, he also used to wrestle aligators and once caught a cat fish that sunk his boat. Scored with his 1 and only Gregson goal with his last touch of the season and his Gregson career is probably still celebrating where ever he is.
